The hook used is as important as any other part of the equation. Gamakatsu Nautilus Ringed Circle Hooks are among the best due to their superior diameter to strength ratio. The ring allows the bait to swim easier and adds a pivot point when in the fishes mouth which reduces leverage which can pull the hook.

These hooks are very sharp with a chemically sharpened point. The barb is big enough to keep fish hooked and the diameter small enough to hook them easily. If you’re looking for the best of both worlds, try the Gamakatsu Nautilus Ringed Circle Hooks.
